Fascinating discussion thank you both!

My head is now spinning with thinking about the differences between legend and fact, why they are both so important.

My first thought is that somehow legend is created to establish identity. Legends fire our imagination, tell stories we want to have been a part of, and provide us the opportunities in their retelling to fascinate others. They have a flexibility that generates discussion and argument, and so they are organic... Facts, however, solidify the story, brooking no argument, and I wonder if this is why they fade faster, requiring more research in order to resurface them. Perhaps these two positions appeal to different preferences, and the artistry of those who are able to combine them, represents the real history of our world, rather than the binary, "yes, it happened... No, it didn't" purely academic approach.

Thanks for this thought provoking podcast... Going to go and get a coffee now, and calm down 😀
